Da Hong Pao is the Tea which first opened my eyes to how great a well-brewed tea is. In 2016 or so, I started on my "tea journey" in the back of Asha Tea House in the SF Bay Area. I had drank plenty of Oolong Tea in my time, nameless bags of tea lost to time, but this was the first which really enlightened me to the differences that the growing environment and processing can induce, and also was the first tea which was brewed well for me, and which I brewed well myself, and boy did that wake me up.
It's a soft, sweet tea when brewed under the right conditions, light and invigorating. It's not sharp like some oolong teas can be, it's not finicky to brew, nor tempermental. It's hard to brew the tea poorly, yet it's exquisite when I brew it well. It's in many ways the prototypical dark oolong tea, but after six or eight infusions of it along with the crystal clarity that comes from being overcaffeinated from tea, I'll find my mind as clear as my "to do" list. My sinus and my gut will, too, be clear as well.
The tea is named Big Red Robe because

this particular terroir's buds are red, and when they are sprouting it looks like a robe wrapped around the tea tree.
